A young man was allegedly taken hostage and sexually assaulted in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj. The perpetrators subsequently attempted to extort Tk 2 lakh from his family by threatening to release a video recording of the assault online.
 
The victim filed a written complaint with Solonga Police Station on September 28, naming eight individuals alongside several unidentified suspects.
 
The named accused are Hridoy Hossain, Shafi Ahamed, Nayeem Ahamed, Siyam Hossain, Monirul Islam, Kaiyum, Tuhin, and Shafiqul Islam—all residents of Nayapara Rashidpur village under Hatikumrul union.
 
According to the complaint, the incident occurred while the victim was visiting a relative's house. Late at night, as he stood near a local shop, the suspects allegedly lured him to a nearby isolated bamboo grove.
 
The complainant alleged that Monirul Islam and several others forcibly subjected him to sexual assault under threat of violence, while others in the group recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
 
The suspects fled the scene when local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the victim's screams.
 
Following the assault, the suspects allegedly contacted one of the victim's relatives via the messaging app Imo, demanding Tk 2 lakh in exchange for deleting the footage. They threatened to leak the video on social media if the ransom was not paid.
 
"After consulting my family and local elders, I lodged a written complaint with Solonga Police Station on September 28. I demand a proper investigation and exemplary punishment for those involved," the victim said.
 
Confirming the matter, Aslam Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Solonga Police Station, said, "We have received a written complaint regarding the incident and are investigating the matter with utmost importance. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved upon investigation."
 
"The victim has already undergone a medical examination, and we are currently awaiting the official report," the OC added.
